The Interview

I am starting my first ever season as a GOTR running coach and I thought this might be a cool opportunity to start a blog again.  I've been wanting to be a running coach for awhile now and with track coaches requiring a daily committment, the 2 days/week required of a GOTR coach seemed much more manageable.  I submitted my application just in time and got 3 people who were willing to be references for me.  I was then asked to come in for a group interview, although was invited to the all-day training at the same time.  I soon learned in the interview that it was more the opportunity to learn more about us in a group setting, see our personalities, and double check that we actually want to do it.
All the girls there seemed super friendly and the 2 women in charge were definitely on top of things.  We played one name game that involved everyone saying their name and an adjective and doing a little action with their name.  We then had to repeat everyone's name before ours so it was definitely a good memory challenge.  Then we played a Life Raft game where we had a typed up scenario with 9 names and brief descriptions about these hypothetical folks and we needed to choose 4 people that would be left behind on a sinking ship instead of brought onto a life raft.  It definitely brought up some difficult and uncomfortable conversations because one of the people on the raft was a white supremecist who had come up with the cure for AIDS.  Another was a college graduate in a wheel chair.  Another was the captain who was losing a lot of blood.  Tricky.  I think we had good discussion though and I would definitely bring up this game in other situations - maybe with the HIPOs.
Finally we were told that we would find out our locations later this week.  They said that they had few people to help at one of the locations that just happened to be near my work so I offered to help with that as well.  We'll see what happens.  I'm excited to learn more though!
